Just along from Stanley Market lies Stanley Bay which is a relaxing area lined with cafes, walkways and temples. There are three main temples including one of the oldest in Hong Kong - the Tin Hau Temple. The other temples are Tai Wong and Pak Tai temples. The Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Murrary House is also worth a visit.
Aberdeen
Aberdeen harbor is one the oldest settlements on Hong Kong island. To get there, take either bus 7 or 71 from Central near the outlying islands ferry pier. Aberdeen harbor is a lively waterway filled with a variety of boats, junks and fisherman`s trawlers. It is also home to the last of the boat people on Hong Kong consisting mainly of the Tanka and Hoklo boat people who have used these waterways for centuries. To enjoy this lively and bustling scene, take a 30 minute boat trip through the harbor or for a negotiated fee, a sampan operator (mostly elderly ladies) will take you speedily through the harbor.
Ocean Park
Before the arrival of Disneyland on Lantau Island, Ocean Park had very little competition and is one of Asia`s largest entertainment and amusement parks. Ocean Park opened in 1977 and consists of two areas connected together by a cable car service. It is currently being redeveloped with an opening date set for 2010. Some of the main attractions include the Ocean Theater (biggest mammal theater in the world) with dolphin and killer whale shows as well as the Atoll Reef which is the largest aquarium in the world. The park is open daily from 9.30am to 6pm (10am to 6pm on Sundays) and admission is free.
Other sites worth visiting on the south side include the beach at Repulse Bay and the unusual village of Shek O which also has an attractive beach.
