Lantau Island
Hong Kong has over 200 islands and Lantau Island is the biggest and about twice the size of Hong Kong Island. Lantau Island has experienced some dramatic changes over recent years which has resulted in this once peaceful island becoming a hub of tourist activity with the opening of the Hong Kong International airport and Disneyworld. The home of such world-famous characters and worlds means that whether you've been to Disneyland Paris, hotels near Alton Towers in the UK or have visited Disneyworld in Hong Kong Kong before, you're going to have a wonderful time on holiday.

The major attraction on Lantau Island for most visitors is the Giant Buddha which sits at the Tian Tan (Altar of Heaven) at Po Lin Monastery

and is reached by climbing 268 steps. The Giant Buddha can be seen from quite a distance away as it sits perched on top of the Ngong Ping plateau. The Giant Buddha is the largest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statue in the world & is about 34 meters high.

The Po Lin monastery and Tian Tan at Ngong Ping can be reached by bus, taxi or more conveniently by the newly opened Ngong Ping 360 cable car.
