Hong Kong has a vast range of accommodation to suit most budgets from backpacker hostels to five star hotels. Most of the expensive hotels are located in Tsim Sha Shui in the waterfront areas of Kowloon. Budget hotels and hostels can be found in Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. Cheaper accommodation is usually fully booked months in advance and it is always advisable to book your hotel or hostel as early as possible to avoid disappointment and large hotel bills.
For people on very tight budgets, Hong Kong has seven youth hostels and although this may involve sharing with other people in basic dorm accommodation, the savings can be substantial compared to mainstream hotels. Another factor to take into account is that some youth hostels are in rural locations or far from the main shopping and commercial centers and this can be inconvenient in terms of travel costs and time.
